Aguila sniper subsonic 22lr review1/13/2024 ![]() It was a surprise to me that the more competent shooter - 22plinkster - and the ammunition for which it was optimized, gave no better than 3MOA and a rather sharply audible “pop” from the ejection port. The VQ rifle was earlier tested with CCI 40-grain subsonics, producing 1MOA, or slightly better, and very quiet report. Aguila Sniper Subsonic ammunition is incredibly quiet when used with a suppressor. CMMG and Ceiner conversion kits used with AR-15 uppers produce decent accuracy.Ĭuriously, some rimfire pistols shoot it quite accurately as well.įor testing Aguila Sniper Subsonic ammunition, I had two rifles made with 1:9 barrels: a Volquartsen semi-auto used with a Gemtech G5-22 suppressor on the muzzle, and a Savage Mark II bolt-action with a Hailey Ordnance integrally-suppressed barrel. If not stabilized, the bullet would tumble right out of the muzzle and could damage suppressor baffles.Īccuracy of an under-stabilized bullet of this length is non-existent. There’s a catch, the bullet is too long to stabilize properly in the typical 1:16 twist rimfire rifle barrels. 22 Short casing to provide space for the elongated. 32 ACP bullet of the same weight, it retains about the same velocity at 100 yards thanks to the greater sectional density. But thats the fun part.Starting out slightly slower than. Though with a good stash on hand, you would likely blow through it faster as well. You would take a one time plunge and be set for a while, and you'd spend less in the long run than buying it a few boxes or a brick at a time locally. I'd suggest just buying a case of 5000 from Target Sports USA and being done with it for a while. But for an all around bulk, Blazers cost about the same as Aguila. Granted, the bulk of my shooting has been steel challenge based during that time, and reliable primers have been the focus rather than grouping. Been through 3 cases of Aguila SV and about halfway through the 3rd case of Blazers in the past year and a half. In my mind, for bulk ammo, Blazer is pretty hard to beat, though I'm probably going to buy a case of Aguila HV just because I want some decent copper washed bulk. I've had feeding issues in the pistols because the cases are kind of gummy and dont feed up in the mags the way they should, but that can be remedied by giving the inside of the mag a shot of Rem-Oil up front. I have not shot more than a few boxes of Aguila HV, but I have ran Aguila SV through Buckmarks and MK series pistols as well as 10-22's and it has fired and cycled great. Yes, Golden Turds actually do have a use. My p22 (which went bye bye about 12yrs ago) would not cycle anything other than mini-mags or Golden Turds. ![]() I think there is something finicky about those little 22 auto's based off of centerfire pistols. I offer this up in case you were considering buying a large quantity of this ammo and intended to use it in the pistols listed above. In the future I am only going to buy CCI. On the plus side, I did find that the Aguila shot decent groups and functioned well out of my Ruger 10/22 rifle. As stated above, these all run fine with other ammo. But, it seems to be the rounds just do not have enough energy. I explained that the issue isn't feeding, they all feed the ammo fine. I contacted the importer who advised me to have a gunsmith check out my pistols and magazines. Just for a point of comparison, all of the above guns run fine on bulk box Federal and crappy Winchester M22. ![]() The ammo turned the above pistols into single shots. The ammo seems to lack sufficient energy to blow out the spent case from the chamber. Specifically, it does not run in my S&W M&P 22 compact, Walther P22 or Beretta 21A. I discovered that it does not function well in three of my 22 auto pistols. I bought a case of this stuff based upon many reviews and for price.
